Lifehacker’s Condensed Front Page View Now Live [Announcements]

Things look different around here? They are! Welcome to our new condensed front page, which makes quickly scanning posts for the stuff you’re interested easier. That’s the hope, anyway.

This new layout packs more content onto the front page in less real estate—which means less scrolling on your part and more stories that stick to the front page longer (without breaking our bank on bandwidth bills). In the condensed view, you can skim our headlines for a pick-and-choose buffet approach to stories than reading through every item to get to the next.

We know, we know—change is hard. This makes us look more like Digg than a blog. We’re fishing for pageviews. We’re complete dunderheads who know nothing about designing user interface.

Gift cards for MAKE gift subscriptions

Nat Geographic World Premier Edition Cover
When I was a kid my grandmother gave me a subscription to World magazine, it was a kids version of National Geographic - I grew up in the middle of nowhere and we also didn’t have TV - each month I’d wait outside on the dirt road for the postal delivery of the magazine. It was magical, photos from far away places, simple how-tos of things I could make, puzzles, games - it was one of the best things I remember growing up. It’s safe to say I wouldn’t be working on MAKE if it wasn’t for that modest gift all those years.

When parents and grandparents talk to us at Maker Faire or send us emails we hear similar stories - they got their loved ones a year of MAKE and over a long summer the kids did projects from the magazine, took apart an old busted toy or discovered that science and how-to resourcefulness is a very fun.

Meet Dan! Associate publisher at MAKE!

Danwoods
Meet Dan! He’s our associate publisher at MAKE and Magazine.org just did an interview with him -

Dan Woods is Associate Publisher for O’Reilly Media’s Maker Media Division, which includes MAKE: Magazine, makezine.com,book publishing unit MAKE: Books, e-tail site MakerShed.com, and Maker Faire, a live event targeting armchair MacGyvers and Ben Franklins. Before taking on that post almost five years ago, Woods served with the Sebastopol, California-based O’Reilly Media’s book unit for nearly two years.

Dan is one of those behind the scenes folks you’d don’t on the site that often who works hard everyday making what we do at MAKE possible.
