Runes Of Magic Pets And Mounts [Can I Keep Him?]

With the Runes of Magic open beta set to go live on Monday the 15th, Frogster has revealed details about the pets and mounts players can purchase or rent in the game.

As in many other MMO titles, mounts are status symbols in the world of Runes of Magic, which means they will cost considerable amounts of cash, but there is a solution for low-level characters. Certain vendors will rent out mounts to the impoverished lowbie masses so they aren’t always left hoofing it. I am hoping they eventually add a layaway program for especially disadvantaged players.

Frogster plans on introducing mounted combat in a future patch as part of their plan to have every possible MMO feature in one game.

Cosmetic pets, like the tiny grim reaper seen above, can be found either by sifting through the corpses of the monsters you kill or purchasing them in the item shop, so rabid pet collectors might just want to avoid the game altogether lest they find themselves completely penniless and surrounded by cute little animals.

White Knight Chronicles: The Box Art, The New Screenshots [White Knight Chronicles]

It’s a bumper White Knight Chronicles media update! Not only do we have a copy of the game’s sublime box art, but a bunch of new screenshots as well.

OK, most of them are new - you’ll find one or two familiar-looking ones - but the looks at character customisation and seriously in-game action are warmly appreciated.

Box art is below, new screenshots below that.

Opium, Tea And You - East India Company Screens [East India Company]

With trade ‘em up naval strategy game East India Company due out early next year, Nitro Games has hoisted some new screens up the flagpole to see who will salute.

The game puts you in command of one of the titular companies in the race to dominate the East Indies and establish a trade empire by free marketeering or some rather more forceful tactics.

Lots of real time naval and land combat is on offer, as well as some spectacular moonlit seascapes and all the natives you can exploit.

Funde Razor Gift Giveaway Count Down: The Posters [Funde Razor 2008]

That wall of free stuff I’ll be giving out during Denver’s Funde Razor tonight? There’s a lot of stuff in there. How much?

So much I’ve decided to break down the freebies over a number of posts yesterday and today.

Seen here is a misappropriated U.S. Mail box and some poster tubes, and a FedEx space shuttle. Inside? An absurd amount of posters, art and books, lots of books.

Keep in mind all of these will be giving away during the fundraiser as door prizes. The fundraiser in Denver will run from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. tonight at The Mercury Cafe.

Each of the three fundraisers will have their own goodies to give away.

Sony: Home Very Imminent, This Month Imminent, But Open Beta First [Home]

Home will indeed hit a 2008 launch, it’s most recent launch date, but only after going through an open beta, Home director Jack Buser told me in a recent interview.

And the new 3D interface for the Playstation 3 will bring with it a paradigm shift in the way people look at and interact with games, he said.

“Playstation home makes online gaming a lot more like what multiplayer gaming used to be,” he said. ” It will fundamentally change the way people play games or think about games.”

“A friend’s list in the past was a list of people you met in the real world or in the context of a particular game, what Playstation Home aims to do is abstract this out so that the friend’s list has meaning.”

“That’s the core value of Home.”

Of course Home isn’t the first time a console has added a 3D or avatar element to the world of consoles, in fact it’s the last for this generation of consoles.

Ski & Shoot - Not Quite Skeet Surfin’, But It’s A Start [Ski & Shoot]

Ski & Shoot is a simulation of the Biathlon - the combination cross-country skiing and rifle shooting event that I first played a version of in Epyx’s Winter Games on the Commodore 64 in (checks Wikipedia) 1986.

Where that was a primitive 2D affair, though, this is a fully 3D extravaganza for the Nintendo Wii. In both cases, however, I was reminded of Skeet Surfin’ - the parody extreme sport invented for the movie Top Secret.

Ski & Shoot will make use of the balance board - balance being rather crucial to this sport and presumably use the WiiMote as a rifle or something.

New X-Blades Screens Bring To Mind Creepy Cosplay [X-Blades]

New screenshots from SouthPeak’s fantasy action game X-Blades highlight the odd contrast between the game’s realistic environments and the main character’s anime-inspired look.

Something has been bothering me about X-Blades for awhile, and it wasn’t until SouthPeak released this latest batch of screens for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC title that I finally realized what it was. The environments in the game feature realistic textures and architecture, while the main character looks like she’s been pulled straight out of a Japanese cartoon. It gives me the same sort of creepy vibe I get when seeing animegao - doll face cosplay.

More Mai Shiranui T&A Figures For The Pile [King Of Fighters]

It doesn’t look like The King of Fighters‘ jiggly ninja Mai Shiranui will be returning for The King of Fighters XII, but that won’t stop SNK from pumping out another plastic knock-up of the girl.

After all, it’s been a good six months since she’s been sculpted into a T&A-showcase pose. Or has it been six weeks? Who can keep up with all these otaku-catering sculpts? The newest, due March of next year, is based on Mai’s KOF: Maximum Impact appearances.

Set aside 16,590 yen (just shy of $180 USD) if you desperately need one for your secret shelf. Or just peruse the gallery to get your kicks.
