Street Fighter IV character videos - Dan takes the spotlight

With comical, lackluster moves, a guido-like smirk on his face, and a Hadou-ken with a fingernail’s range, Dan is perhaps the biggest joke on Street Fighter. But for Street Fighter IV (PS3, Xbox 360), it looks like Capcom turned the jester into a legit killer, although much of the Dan-antics we’ve come to love are still there.

I love this Dan even more. He looks like he’s a bit overweight, walks like his gut’s too heavy, and needs two heaves to throw you down. He’s got a mean-looking super attack, and a hilarious facial expression at 1:18 to show that it hurts.

PS3’s Service Mode JIG Set-Up File leaked

Another item which is not supposed to be out for public consumption has leaked out to the Internet: the JIG install setup folder for the PS3. Before you go gaga over this exploit, do take not that it’s actually pretty useless without the necessary related software. And since this is illegal, sorry but you’re not getting it from our site.

JIG Set-Up files - Image 1

We do have a screenshot as well as information, though, if that would appease your curiosity. For one, it’s been said that the leaker is one such hackerpointer. As for the included files:

  • Lv2diag.self: crashes on a Debug console, likely used for lv2 diagnostics.

Microsoft sold 28 million Xbox 360s by end of 2008

From reuters.com:
[QUOTE]
Microsoft Corp sold 28 million units worldwide of its Xbox 360 video game console through the end of 2008, expanding the Xbox’s lead over rival Sony Corp’s PlayStation 3 console in worldwide unit sales, the company said on Monday.

Xbox 360 product management director Aaron Greenberg said 2008 “was our biggest year ever in Xbox history” despite a sluggish global economy that’s battered U.S. retailers this past holiday season.

Rising unemployment and tighter credit have dented U.S. consumers’ purchasing power and most retailers have posted dismal sales results in recent months.

Microsoft said global unit sales of the Xbox 360, which was launched about a year before the PS3, outpaced its rival by over 8 million units at the close of 2008.

Wolverine Is Like God Of War, Only Simpler [X-men]

The new Wolverine game was always going to be a brawler. A fighter. That’s what Wolverine does, he brawls, he fights. But what kind of brawler? What kind of fighter? Developers Raven have opened up.

Speaking with EGM (yes, the article from this month’s mag is now online), Raven’s Dan Vondrak has spoken of the game’s influences, and where they hope to take both the character and the game:

God of War was an influence. Devil May Cry, even Super Smash Bros., to a point. When we play [games like that], we just like the simplicity. Every character has their basic set of moves — that’s simple.

Baiyon and Dylan Cuthbert of Q-games Share Behind-the-scenes Look at PixelJunk Eden

PixelJunk Eden LogoPixelJunk Eden stood out among the games of 2008 for its beguiling combination of artistic endeavor and game mechanic. Its fundamentally simple concept of swinging a cute little character around a space on strands of wire came alive through the interplay with the forms, colors, and sounds of its psychedelic gardens. Kyoto-based DJ/sound producer/artist/graphic designer Baiyon led the creative effort in putting together this multimedia artwork. Whenever I play the game it works some sort of magic that leaves me feeling relaxed. Taken as I’ve been by that spell, when Q-Games president and executive producer asked if I’d like to come down to Kyoto and talk with him and Baiyon about their experiences in making the game I didn’t hesitate for moment.

Learn, Or Re-Learn, How To Comment On Kotaku [Housekeeping]

Why, hello there. It’s that time again, time to remind seasoned vets and newcomers alike how to comment right here on Kotaku. Things to keep in mind:

We ban. A lot. Every second of everyday. And that’s not all! We disemvowell, too. (Bcs n vwlls s fnny!)

We also reward stellar commenters with stars, and commenters can reward each other with Hyper Multi-Tap nominations. Swell.

Why do we do this? Well… Have you visited other sites? Not everyone who reads Kotaku comments, and some of those individuals perhaps, just perhaps, would like to read intelligent, insightful remarks from smart people, not dribble from dummies!

Here’s a helpful guideline for commenting from sister site Lifehacker.

Gaijinworks To Announce Possible New Title In ‘A Month Or Two’

Working Designs is long gone, but their legacy of bringing Japanese classics over to America remains intact. And now they may have a chance to do it again, minus perhaps only a few Bill Clinton jokes.

Former president Victor Ireland moved on to found Gaijinworks after WD’s demise, and now he’s resurfaced on NeoGaf to announce that a title will be publicly announced within a “month or two” for release before the summer. No ideas on what they might bring over, but resident Retronaut Jeremy Parish suggested RPG Soma Bringer and classic shooter Thunder Force 6, among others.

For a more details and analysis, go check out the entry on the Retronauts blog.

No, Eidos, You Can’t Vote For Your Own Games In A GOTY Poll [Pr]

Oh look. It’s Eidos. In another PR cock-up. Which we’re posting not for the magnitude of it – it’s just a magazine reader poll – but for the ineptitude of it.

Aussie mag Hyper - the country’s longest-running and most respected independent games magazine - are running a little readers poll, trying to find out what their readers favourite games of 2008 were. And one “reader” continually submitted the game…Soul Bubbles.

Yup. Soul Bubbles. Except, this “reader” has a profile email address that ends with “@eidos.co.uk”. Oops. Course, he could genuinely be a reader, and genuinely believe that Soul Bubbles has “without doubt the best use of touchscreen ever and hands down the most impressive physics”, but the odds on that are…slim.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Honest votes only, please [Hyper]
