Rumor: Monster Hunter 3 Coming to PlayStation Portable

As a follow-up to our previous article, according to a rough translation of Chinese site CNGBA (linked above) citing a Japanese magazine scan, a Capcom Official said in a recent interview that they have not yet decided if Monster Hunter 3 will be a Wii exclusive.

The site speculates that a portable version of Monster Hunter 3 for the PSP is likely to exist.

While there is still no concrete evidence to back up these claims, the idea of Monster Hunter 3 heading to PlayStation Portable is quite feasible if history repeats itself… based on Capcom’s success with portable gaming consoles.

Needless to say, until official confirmation is available this is being dubbed a rumor.

Square Enix Sales Down 74 Percent, Wait for Dissidia on PSP!

In a recent study, it was unveiled that this year Square Enix’s sales were down by 74%. This was partly because the bulk of Crisis Core’s Japanese sales came in 2007, but it still performed well when it was released in other regions earlier this year.

The main reason for Square Enix’s lacklustre sales this year is the absence of any other strong titles, which is where Dissidia: Final Fantasy comes in.

Since it was initially announced, Dissidia has intrigued nearly all fans of Final Fantasy. This is because Dissidia is a celebration of 20 years of Final Fantasy and it will include characters from all twelve of the games which make up the main series.

Everyday Shooter Blasts onto PlayStation Portable Today

Sr. Producer Rusty Buchert of Sony Santa Monica Studios shared the following today via PS Blog:

Hi all, it’s Rusty again from the Santa Monica Studio. We are getting ready to launch Everyday Shooter PSP on the PSN store today, and we are really thrilled about how it has turned out. Between Jon Mak, Backbone Entertainment and us, we have Jon’s thoughts about how everything went on getting this made. Hope you all like what we’ve done.

First things first: the seaweed is gone, but the hashbrowns are still in the freezer.

So Rusty wanted me to write a little blog post about Everyday Shooter for PSP.

New Final Fantasy: Dissidia Details Emerge for PSP

IGN has gone through Famitsu’s 11-page feature on Final Fantasy: Dissidia and translated several new details recently.

Square Enix apparently considered putting a FFXII character in the game, but were concerned it would solidify "the character’s image and skills in players’ minds and thus affecting the main FFXIII".

Famitsu also revealed that gamers will be able to choose a Memory Stick installation of 245, 373, or 528 megabytes. Finally, Ikeda, the main programmer for the game, says that the 245MB install will allow "smooth battles."

To quote: If all that isn’t enough to make you wonder how Square Enix is fitting Dissidia on one UMD, here’s something that should do the trick.

LocoRoco 2 Review: Arming The Mui Mui [Review]

The original LocoRoco was probably as close as to a killer app the PSP has come; exclusive, unique, reasonably innovative — a great game. Wasn’t a perfect game, however, as it had a few problems.

Chief among them was the fact it played like a glorified tech demo, with very little to offer outside of a joyous control mechanism and a catchy theme song. Fast forward to 2008, and we’re presented with LocoRoco 2, the game’s long-awaited sequel, which has things a little harder than you’d think. Tinker with the perfect control scheme and you’d ruin the whole thing. Add too much to the bare-bones original and you’d ruin the game’s charming simplicity.

It’s a knife’s edge!

New York City Losing Its Giant PSP (Again)? [Playstation Portable]

The giant PSP in the SoHo district of New York City looks like it’s on its way out… again. No, it’s not the first time the PSP has been dismantled from its billboard.

But will it be the last? The thing has been doing great harm to the reputation of the PlayStation Portable’s screen quality since 2005, but reader Mark says that the thing looks like it’s on its way out. Maybe the thing’s just in need of a good scrub-down and a firmware upgrade, to prevent piracy on a massive scale.

Perhaps it’s just time to retire this thing and remember it fondly via its tan line-like filth silhouette.

Update: Looks like the PSP Huge is going to get a screen upgrade too. Hooray!
