New Final Fantasy XIII Trailers Now For Your Eyes [Clips]

Square Enix has finally made publicly available the Final Fantasy XIII trailers it showed at its DKΣ3713 event this summer. There’s a smattering of new footage, matched with old platform exclusivity information.

Yes, this Final Fantasy XIII trailer still ends with “Coming Soon for PlayStation 3″ but all those pretty pre-rendered scenes make us forget about that console war ugliness. There’s even a new Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer for you to soak in!

Yep, not much in the way of gameplay here, but we know that at least five minutes worth of Versus XIII exists!

Thanks to everyone who reminded us that these trailers were out.

Chrono Trigger DS Dated For Europe [Chrono Trigger Ds]

Square Enix rectifies the sad fact that Europe has never seen an official release of their RPG classic Chrono Trigger early next year, as they announce a February release date for the DS remake.

February 6th is the date that Europeans in all their form and splendor will finally get to understand what RPG fans around the world have been gushing about for the past 13 years, not counting those that went the import or emulation route. Chrono Trigger DS is a faithful remake of the original title, adding a few new dungeons, an alternate ending, the cutscenes from the PlayStation remake, and the convenience of the dual-screen display but otherwise leaving the original adventure of Crono and friends completely intact.

Persona 4 Hits Europe This Spring [Release Dates]

Atlus’ latest foray into the land of ultra-freaky Japanese Rps is on its way across the sea, as Square Enix announces a Spring 2009 release for Persona 4 in Europe and PAL territories.

Released on July 10th in Japan and yesterday in North America, the PlayStation 2 RPG has been given a release window of spring 2009, as localization teams scurry to make the game playable for the folks that can’t understand anything I’ve written in this article.

John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix Ltd. comments, “Persona 4 epitomises Square Enix’s commitment to bringing the best gaming experiences to the European market.

Dragon Quest X Coming To Wii [Square Enix]

Yuji Horii, creator of the Dragon Quest series, revealed at Square Enix’s press conference in Tokyo today that the next entry in the role-playing game series, Dragon Quest X, is in development for the Wii.

After announcing the final release date for Dragon Quest IX, which will be released for the Nintendo DS in Japan on March 28 for 5980 yen, Horii confirmed that the series would be returning to consoles for its tenth entry, according to Japanese game site Gigazine (via NeoGAF). Square Enix released a spin-off, Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors, for the Wii in 2007, but DQ X will be the first release in the core series for the Wii platform.

The revelation comes two years after the announcement that DQ IX would be released on the Nintendo DS after two entries on the PlayStation 2.

How to Design Characters the Square-Enix Way [Square-enix]

When I was 13 my Mom bought me the classic “How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way.” It did a pretty good job of convincing me I could draw superheroes, when I really couldn’t.

Now there’s an easy step-by-step tutorial showing us how to do something about as formulaic: Design video game characters the Square-Enix way. See it on the jump.

Next installment: How to voice act the Squenix way.

Square Enix Launch Takeover Bid For Eidos [Imperial Hot]

Square Enix are serious about cracking the Western market with games that don’t include the words “Final” and “Fantasy”. Want to know how serious? They just made a takeover bid for Eidos.

Home to Lara Croft, Eidos have been in a financial pickle of late, and are already in takeover talks with Warner Bros. Square Enix making a run at them, though, is far more interesting.

Warner Bros are, according to those in the know, the front-runners to snag the deal. They already own 20% of Eidos, making a takeover purchase a cheap one. But Square can’t be counted out.

Square boss Yoichi Wada has already popped in for tea and biscuits at Eidos-owned IO Interactive (Hitman, Kane & Lynch), and will be flying back to the UK soon to “move the deal forward”.

GameStop Makes Chrono Trigger Sound More Like Napoleon Dynamite [Chrono Trigger]

We have no idea who the bored-out-of-their-mind product writer at GameStop is, but they’re definitely wasted on a retail portal. Above is the product description for the upcoming DS remake of Chrono Trigger.

It’s a little different to how we remember it.

Rumor: Dragon Quest IX Bound For Wii, As Well [Square Enix]

When Square-Enix announced Dragon Quest IX for DS, it came as quite a blow to stay-at-home console owners. If the newest rumor from EGM’s Quartermann is right, DQ fans may still get a console version.

Yes, the Nintendo DS version is still coming in March of 2009, Iwada willing, but it may also be coming to the Wii. It may be coming to the little white console in the same fashion that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes Of Time will — as a game playable on both platforms, with DS-caliber graphics intact. That’s a money making plan that likely doesn’t impact development costs like a fully fledged port would.

So, So Many New Dragon Quest IX Images [Dragon Quest Ix]

Believe it or not, Dragon Quest IX will indeed be coming out on the humble Nintendo DS. Famitsu have posted a ton of new screenshots for the game. Let’s go take a look.

Most of them focus on character, inventory and menu screens (who builds Toriyama characters with tiny eyes?), but there are some battle sequences shown as well. Which are really making the poor little DS sing.

If all goes according to plan, DQIX should be out in Japan in March. Plenty more screens at the link below.
